New Music

I would just like to preach about my latest musical obsession.. that being GROUPLOVE!! Interviewed vocalist Christian last week and he was very chilled which reminds me I’m definitely going to start posting my interviews on here soon-ish.. A new band that has had amazing success in the short space of just over a year.. the story of how they got together is pretty love-story-hippie-pixies-fleetwood-mac-awesome.. and who better to tell it then themselves.. The Bloom Documentary is about them, their story,  their struggles and it’s worth wasting 10 minutes of your life watching.. this band are so serious on the first day of officially deciding to start they’re band they all got GROUPLOVE tattooed on themselves.. I want to join the movement =D The cinematography is excellent..

The same guy does most if not all of their music videos and they’re pretty excellent.. they’ll be touring Australia in January and if I wasn’t a slave to the man with my Monday to Friday 9 to 5 and no Christmas holidays I would totally follow them around Australia and watch every gig.. seeing the sights by day and rocking, dancing, singing my lungs out at night.. probably in this van…

Saw this baby in the Barossa… absolute perfection! Wanted to leave a note under the wipers saying if they ever lost their mind and decided to sell it, to please call me

“I wrote.. a letter.. to my very own.. Cinderella.. and she had.. been taken.. by a good thing to quench his cravings.. THIEF!! RUAAH!! UGH!!

Part two peeps.. (not sure I got the words right to that heading but gave it a go listening repeatedly to their EP that I bought) the third support act Northeast Party House are an Indie/synth-rock/dance/psychedelic group that reminded me of a mix of Bloc Party, Foals and Gorillaz. They create such powerful, funky, attention-grabbing, ear-prickling music that when they played my new favourite song ‘Dusk’ I stopped grooving and just watched, like a statue, completely paralysed and mesmerised at the same time…

Jack Shoe main-jumper-arounder and guitarist giving it all during ‘Embezzler’.. they really give an amazing high energy show and considering the lack of space they had on that tiny stage I’m surprised nobody got knocked out by any instruments… Here’s my new favourite song;

The glistening face of vocalist Zach.. so stuffy, so hot in there.. they really need to renovate if they’re so worried about people sneaking into gigs through the window (even though the security at the door is sh*t-house and it’s so easy to just walk in) they should put bars on the windows so then at least everyone can stop sweating on each other and enjoy some fresh air….

Love this one…….. cool that I could get so many different shots in the same place, on the same night with different bands. I was hoping and I think I did take shots that represented them and weren’t all the same =D.. happy as larry…

Jack Shoe waiting as they had problems with their sound-check, went on for so long that it cut into their set time… bummer. Never seen a guy rock a dangley earring so well…

Awesome third act.. might I say they were in some ways better than the principal act.. yes blasphemy I know but I’ll tell you why in the next post…

My new favourite obsession.. The Jungle Giants are getting frequent Triple J airplay and had the pleasure of seeing them perform live Saturday night supporting Ball Park Music.. awesome night. $10 well spent on their current EP… and this is their latest pop single with afro-beat tinge.. feel good song that sounded great live… will post the photos up soon!

Had my first gig review a couple of weeks ago and it was the pretty cool Josh Pyke with The Paper kites and Emma Louise… Here’s my happy snaps!!

Emma Louise – second support act, beautiful voice and really tried to connect with the audience telling them meanings behind her songs before she sung them even though nobody really knew who she was. A big cheer came up though when she sung ‘Jungle’.. if you’re a triple J listener like probably 4/5′s of the audience you’d of heard it..

… the only song anyone knew of hers but she’s brilliant

This girls backup vocals and harmonies were amazing, very, very talented she had such a seventies look about her and I had to shoot her black and white with that simple black dress with arms full of bracelets and she played barefoot the whole time…

Awesome moment when he invited the crowd to come up and sing one of his first major songs ‘middle of the hill’ and it was a great scene as you can see everybody singing along in harmony the girls and guys in the back there with their eyes closed really getting into the song. But then that guy at the front the Led Zeppelin shirt was funny trying to share the microphone, clicking his fingers with Josh Pyke and getting most of the words wrong.. absolute hilarity…

Great show… felt like a nerd there alone with my notepad, scribbling notes in the flashing lights, juggling my camera at the same time.. still do it all again!!
