“I believe in miracles…

What a topsy-turvy couple of days. Had my laptop stolen - well, ‘taken’ would be a better word – and then through persistence, desperation and civil vigilante justice it was recovered!

I don’t need to delve into details of how it was taken needless to say I’ve learnt my lesson in regards to trusting people with my things. So in another state away from ‘Ground Zero’, with reward posters up and relying on the kindness of man I spent the day like this…

Yep. It’s a soulless person to resist that face maybe if we had attached it to the MISSING poster I would have got my laptop back quicker. That’s the face of someone who is kicking themselves for not backing up everything online; thinking of the countless images, documents and priceless memories lost because of pure carelessness. Not to mention two months worth of unedited gig photography and awesomely funny social snaps that I was looking forward to sharing to the world.

But in another state at 5am that next morning a man with a plan waited outside at ‘Ground Zero’ in the cover of darkness. Watching people on their way to work, he was in the hope that he would find a lead if not the person responsible for taking my laptop. In an amazing display of wit and cunning he figured, the thief would be passing by at the same time my laptop disappeared. When he noticed a boy actually stop and read his MISSING poster – something an innocent person would not be bothered to do at such an hour –  he approached him and asked whether he knew anything about the missing laptop. Acting suspicious and jumpy it was only down to persistent questioning and having a slight moral conscious that this 20-year-old guy caved and admitted his flatmate had my laptop. After some convincing, promises of a reward and slight emotional blackmail the ‘aider & abetter’  agreed to meet up with him later that night and return my precious. He lives with five other tradies including the f***ing filho de uma egua who had picked up my laptop. He said that he had seen his flatmate with it and mentioned that the guy had no clue about laptops.  Cue an anxious day of me waiting expecting the worst, praying that my laptop hadn’t been wiped by this moron. He knew my password (my detective) and was under strict instructions to check everything was still on there before handing over any sort kind of reward money. Then came the call at 8.30 “I have it!!”.. in the end no reward money was given (he claimed to have done it out of humanity and goodwill) and come Tuesday it will be in my sweet hands.

And then I will look something like this…

… just as drunk and just as smiley. So always one to learn from my mistakes can anyone suggest a great online hard drive service to save all my documents and files on? I don’t mind paying a monthly fee..
